Singapore/Hong Kong, 9 December 2021 – Bursa Malaysia won an Outstanding Project award for its Bursa Anywhere platform in the 4th Regulation Asia Awards for Excellence 2021 at an online ceremony on 9 December 2021.
The Bursa Anywhere mobile app was initially launched in June 2019 to provide investors easier and more convenient access to portfolio and investment information as well as electronic depository services. The app offers investors direct access to their Central Depository System (CDS) accounts, displaying the securities they own at market value and providing timely notifications on corporate announcements as well as monthly statements.
Bursa Anywhere also offers a convenient way for investors to apply for and make payments for rights subscriptions through an ‘eRights’ service, and allows investors to transfer securities between their own accounts, among other features. Amid the pandemic, Bursa Anywhere has been used by investors to remotely access their accounts and submit CDS transaction requests, eliminating the need for hard copy application forms and documents.
“Bursa Anywhere is a great initiative to provide investors direct and convenient access to the capital market,” said one judge on the awards panel. “It allows remote account opening, which reduces barriers particularly for retail investors, and also improves the investment experience. This could be a game changer for corporate actions communications, which in many other markets is still very much a manual and error-prone process.”
“It’s heartening for the Bursa Anywhere mobile app to receive this recognition. The app was born out of a simple idea to leverage on technology and provide investors with greater market access to their depository accounts, anytime, anywhere,” said Tay Yu Hui, Director, Market Operations, Bursa Malaysia Berhad.
“When the Covid-19 pandemic reached Malaysia, investors were fortunately able to continue accessing their accounts via Bursa Anywhere with ease and convenience. With just one tap, investors could conduct enquiry and transaction without physically interacting with anyone during the lockdown. Subsequently, this also led to new entrants to the active retail participation in the equity market. The Exchange will continue to look into new features to delight our investors through Bursa Anywhere.”
Moving forward, Bursa Malaysia will enhance the app by including more value-add services, including personalised portfolio alerts, beneficiary management functionality, and analytics information for investors. In addition, new services will be provided within the app, including electronic Dividend Reinvestment Plan (eDRP), electronic Initial Public Offering (eIPO), and new modes of payment and an eWallet.
