Dow Jones Risk & Compliance Wins Best Solution in PEPs, Sanctions Screening

Singapore/Hong Kong, 15 December 2020 – Dow Jones Risk & Compliance has won Best Solution in PEPs and Sanctions Screening in the 3rd Regulation Asia Awards for Excellence 2020 in an online ceremony on 15 December 2020.

Dow Jones Risk & Compliance offers PEPs (politically exposed persons) and Sanctions screening solutions for firms of all sizes. For those that are not seeking a local installation, the solution is offered as a module within a web-based batch screening and monitoring solution, or via an API. For firms that require screening on a much higher volume of names on a continuous basis, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance offers its much more comprehensive Advanced Adverse Media Screening solution.

The solution screens negative news, and sanctions and PEPs data, with enhanced matching in multiple languages. It uses machine learning to automatically identify client risk across various data sources in real time. One of the key sources used is Dow Jones’ proprietary global news database, Factiva, which boasts over 1 million new articles a day, sourced from thousands of news sources spanning 28 languages.

The Advanced Adverse Media Screening solution uses a supervised machine learning algorithm, paired with secondary identifiers (e.g. dates, places of birth, gender, etc.) to reduce the noise of false positives and immaterial hits. In addition, its industry-leading data filtering capabilities helps clients focus their efforts on datasets that are most relevant to their businesses.

Dow Jones covers more than 50 sanctioning bodies, with all sanctions data consolidated into its flagship ‘Watchlist’ risk database. With regard to PEPs, it covers 22 occupation categories covering national, regional and international officials, in addition to 31 categories of family members and 11 categories of close associates.

“The comprehensiveness of the Dow Jones Risk & Compliance solution gives firms certainty on risk,” said one judge on the awards panel. “The adverse media, PEPs and sanctions screening system can integrate with existing workflows, and supports end-to-end auditing and management information to ensure compliance. A clear winner.”
