IHS Markit Recognised for Initial Margin Compliance SaaS Tool

Singapore/Hong Kong, 9 December 2021 – IHS Markit was Highly Commended in the Initial Margin Compliance category in the 4th Regulation Asia Awards for Excellence 2021 at an online ceremony on 9 December 2021.

IHS Markit was recognised for its end-to-end workflow SaaS tool, which delivers a complete margin ecosystem to automate and streamline the entire collateral management cycle – from accurately calculating IM and settling margin calls to managing disputes. The solution allows users to quickly assess the impact of proposed trades (using both SIMM and Schedule calculations), calculate accurate IM for completed trades, and seamlessly manage the entire margin exchange workflow.

The solution also features intuitive, customisable dashboards and real-time reporting to help users automate margin calls processing and manage exceptions. It supports the collateralisation of any instruments across all asset classes, and help firms optimise the impact of the cash and securities pledged as collateral across cleared and noncleared OTC derivatives, repos, stock loan, futures, options and structured products – and gain maximum capital efficiency.

The solution is hosted on the cloud, available in functional modules, and offers quick and efficient onboarding and updates – eliminating the need for clients to invest in non-core hardware or software. “This flexibility is of notable benefit to firms phase 5 and 6 firms, given their relatively smaller size and lower appetite for set-up costs – compared to firms that came into scope under the earlier phases of the initial margin rules,” noted a judge on the awards panel.

“The emphasis on ensuring the robustness of back testing is significant in my view,” he said. “There has not been a big focus on back testing, but it is becoming increasingly important for firms just entering into scope to really understand the impacts of the IM rules. I commend this approach, in the knowledge that IHS Markit’s capabilities on the data side will help to ensure the relevant historical data needed for back testing can be sourced.”

IHS Markit also offers IM threshold monitoring, pre-trade scenario analysis capabilities and on-demand optimisation, and integraton of its Collateral Manager platform with major collateral infrastructure participants across the ecosystem, including SWIFT Messaging, AcadiaSoft MarginSphere, and all major clearing brokers and trade repositories. The solution is widely used by banks, investment banks, asset managers, securities firms, custodians, and others.
