Singapore/Hong Kong, 9 December 2021 – Moody’s has won Best Solution in the ESG Data Provider category the 4th Regulation Asia Awards for Excellence 2021 at an online ceremony on 9 December 2021.
Moody’s was recognised for its ESG Score Predictor, which seeks to help address the critical need for ESG and climate risk metrics across the financial sector, i and companiesnvestment community. The solution leverages a model derived from Moody’s proprietary ESG scoring methodology for large-cap corporates as well as advanced analytics to generate the best approximation of 59 ESG and climate metrics for any company worldwide, based on location, sector, and size.
The metrics include multiple layers of granular ESG scores for each domain as well as physical risk management scores, energy transition scores, and Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions (Scope 3 carbon emissions coming soon). These granular metrics allow users to easily identify areas of demonstrated weak or strong management approaches, that in turn expose companies to different associated risks and opportunities.
The metrics can be used to perform targeted heatmap analysis and identify granular pockets of risks and opportunities across industrial sectors, market cap size segments and locations – thereby providing financial institutions with quantitative data for portfolio and risk management, and companies the ability to monitor ESG risk across their global supply chains. Users can access ESG scores on approximately 140 million companies via Moody’s platforms, using an API or by applying the ESG Score Predictor model with their in-house data to evaluate companies in their portfolios on demand.
“The solution is sophisticated and accounts for the various granularities of data points that are needed to provide unparalleled insights for decision makers,” said a judge on the awards panel. “This is a comprehensive and broad-based solution that has clearly been developed with some real expertise and knowledge over a period of time, which offers credibility to the solution. The ESG Score Predictor seems to be a real contender as a potential long term solution for a broader part of the market.”
In 2022, Moody’s plans to enhance the ESG Score Predictor models with financial data as well as company-specific reputational ESG risks by leveraging artificial intelligence to collect past incident events and produce a forward-looking signal. The enhancements are expected to yield even greater precision in the predicted ESG scores and climate metrics.
