SmartStream Technologies Wins Best Solution in Reference Data

Singapore/Hong Kong, 14 November 2019  SmartStream Technologies has been awarded the Best Solution Award in Reference Data in the 2nd Regulation Asia Awards for Excellence 2019 at a ceremony in Singapore on 13 November 2019.

SmartStream’s Reference Data Utility (RDU) delivers a data utility solution that supplies the industry a ‘true version’ of legal entity, security, instrument, corporate action and pricing data. The utility, solely dedicated to processing reference data, helps firms reduce complexity in their businesses and cuts compliance costs by providing the data foundation for electronic trading, automating operations and regulatory reporting.

The RDU acts as a processing agent for a firm’s selected data sources, whereby it will source, validate and cross-reference the required data using best practices so these processes do not need to be duplicated at every financial institution. As a shared service model, the RDU also promotes common fixes to data processing across instrument lifecycles and the events that originate and change data.

The accurate and timely datasets provided by the RDU are particularly helpful for regulatory reporting and compliance purposes. For MIFID II/ MIFIR, for example, it provides all the reference data needed to support pre-trade price transparency, post-trade and transaction reporting.

The judges also credited SmartStream for last year’s launch of a Systematic Internaliser (SI) Registry, which consolidates and cleans data on financial instruments registered by over 110 SIs in a centralised database, and promotes transparency and reduces MiFID II compliance costs.

In the 2018 Regulation Asia Awards, Smartstream won an Outstanding Project award in Post Trade Processing for delivering a best practice standard corporate actions management lifecycle processes, and in particular, the implementation of this standard at a leading Japanese securities firm.
