TFEX Extends Trading Hours to Facilitate Currency Hedging

TFEX says extended trading hours will accommodate investors’ trading needs and enable them to manage foreign exchange risk more conveniently.

The TFEX (Thailand Futures Exchange) has extended trading hours for its USD futures contracts to include a night session, effective from Monday (27 September).

The regular session for USD futures has traded from 9.45pm-4.55pm. The new night session will allow trading between 6.50pm-11.55pm.

The change is aimed at accommodating investors’ trading needs and enable them to manage foreign exchange risk more conveniently, TFEX said in a notice.

“USD Futures have shown significant growth over the past two years due to currency fluctuation,” the notice says. USD Futures trading volumes averaged 12,606 contracts a day (as of August 2021), a 357 percent increase from 2019.

TFEX Silver futures will also be adjusted by making two quarterly contract months available to traders, starting from Wednesday (29 September). Currently, only one quarterly contract month is available.

“To facilitate spread trading, the clearing house will allow for the inter-month spread margin of Silver Online Futures as well,” TFEX said.
