Bank of Singapore has won Best In-house Use of AI for Financial Crime Investigations at the 8th Regulation Asia Awards for Excellence 2025, celebrated in person on 10 November 2025, for the development of a comprehensive suite of proprietary AI-driven models to enhance its investigative processes.
This award recognises a financial institution that has demonstrated outstanding innovation in leveraging artificial intelligence to detect, investigate, and mitigate financial crime risks. The judges looked for in-house solutions that are deeply integrated into workflows, demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of risk, and deliver a strategic advantage in the fight against illicit activities.
Bank of Singapore was recognised for its holistic and ambitious approach to embedding AI within its compliance framework. Instead of a single tool, the bank has developed an interconnected ecosystem of models, including its Dynamic Trigger Monitoring, Fraudulent Financial Statements, and Adverse News analytics solutions. These models are built entirely in-house and are designed to work in concert, providing investigators with a more complete and contextualised view of client risk.
A standout feature noted by the judges was the model for detecting fraudulent financial statements, which leverages native Chinese language processing - a capability that showcases a deep understanding of regional-specific risks.
“To deliver this suite of AI capabilities as an in-house build only is a remarkable achievement,” commented a judge on the Regulation Asia Awards panel. “Bank of Singapore’s use of native Chinese language processing for analysing financial statements is particularly innovative, showcasing a level of regional specialisation that generic solutions cannot match. It shows they are not just applying AI, but are thoughtfully tailoring it to the unique challenges of their market.”
